Puddle Jumpers Inc. shares a unique partnership with SOS Children’s Villages Australia through the use of its campsite for all Camps. Both organisations also share the same Board Chair: Christopher Miller.
SOS Childrens Villages Australia SOS Children’s Villages is the world’s largest charity for orphaned and abandoned children. Together with their supporters, they have been helping the world’s most vulnerable children and families for over 65 years in more than 125 countries. They were founded in Europe in 1949 to give long-term security and care to children who had lost their homes or families in the Second World War. They now continue this work worldwide, and as a non-denominational and apolitical charity we always respect the religions and cultures of the local community.
In 1995 SOS International provided funds to SOS Australia to purchase 13 residential allotments at Seaford Rise (Adelaide suburb) and to erect 11 houses to establish its first Australian children’s village. The Village was completed and opened in 1996, and successfully operated until 2006. After that time SOS searched for a different way to support children who are experiencing disadvantage.
As SOS Australia has no office and no staff, the day to day operations of the camp are run by Puddle Jumpers Inc. Both Charities are independent and separate charitable entities but the operational and management link has been established by having a common Chairman (Christopher Miller).
This strategy has been an outstanding success, attracting corporate sponsorships and the support of many small businesses throughout Australia. The successful partnership fills the void of a unique service to children and families which has become vital in the local community. Puddle Jumpers Inc. continues to be immensely grateful for the support and partnership of SOS international and SOS Children’s Villages Australia.
